Wilderness International

Wilderness International is a non-profit foundation focused on protecting the Earth's last remaining wilderness areas through legally secure land purchases. Founded in 2008 in Germany and Canada, it operates three sister foundations in Germany, Canada, and Peru. The organization aims to safeguard the last 2.8% of the planet's intact habitats by 2050, allowing donors to track the specific areas their contributions protect. The foundation engages in land acquisition and protection, having secured over 4.5 million square meters of endangered rainforest in Canada and Peru. It conducts biodiversity monitoring and research, including a pioneering eDNA project in collaboration with ETH Zurich. Wilderness International also utilizes drone technology for aerial documentation and educational media production, enhancing public awareness of rainforest conservation. The organization operates on a donation-based model and partners with businesses through initiatives like "One Percent for the Planet," encouraging corporate responsibility in environmental protection.
