The Rug Company is a British luxury brand founded in 1997 by Christopher and Suzanne Sharp. It specializes in high-end handmade rugs, cushions, and wallhangings that combine traditional artisanal techniques with contemporary design. The company is known for its commitment to craftsmanship, community, and innovation, producing rugs primarily through hand-knotting techniques using high-lanolin wool from Tibetan Plateau sheep. Each piece involves a team of about 20 artisans and takes approximately four months to complete. The Rug Company offers a range of bespoke and custom rugs, along with in-house expertise for interior designers and clients. Its flagship Designer Collection features collaborations with over 40 international designers and artists, including notable names like Alexander McQueen, Vivienne Westwood, and Kelly Wearstler. The brand operates around 24-26 showrooms globally, including locations in the US, Europe, South Africa, Asia, and the Middle East, catering to luxury clients and interior designers.
