Operating under the conservatorship of the Federal Housing Finance Agency (FHFA), Fannie Mae plays a crucial role in the housing finance system. It purchases mortgages from lenders, pools them, and issues MBS to investors. This activity provides liquidity to lenders and standardizes underwriting processes through its platforms.
