Federal Emergency Management Agency

The Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) is a U.S. federal agency under the Department of Homeland Security. It coordinates disaster response, preparedness, mitigation, and recovery efforts when local and state resources are insufficient. Established in 1978, FEMA integrates various functions from previous agencies and operates the National Response Coordination Center for incident support. FEMA's mission is to support citizens and emergency personnel in preparing for, responding to, and recovering from disasters. It provides disaster response and recovery services, including on-the-ground support, funding for rebuilding, and relief funds through partnerships with organizations like the Small Business Administration. The agency also funds training for response personnel and engages in a whole community approach to emergency management.
