Department of Defense Office of Small Business Programs

The Department of Defense Office of Small Business Programs (OSBP) is a federal agency dedicated to enhancing small business participation in Department of Defense (DoD) acquisitions. It serves as the main advisor to the Secretary of Defense on small business matters, focusing on solutions that support national security priorities. The OSBP's mission includes modernizing the defense industrial base and accelerating acquisitions by reducing barriers for small businesses. It manages several programs, such as the Mentor-Protégé Program, which pairs experienced firms with small business protégés, and the Indian Incentive Program, which promotes subcontracting to Native American businesses. The office also oversees various socioeconomic programs for veteran-owned, service-disabled veteran-owned, HUBZone, small disadvantaged, and women-owned businesses. With outreach to nearly 35,000 small businesses, the OSBP facilitates significant procurement opportunities, exceeding $50 billion in prime contract awards and over $40 billion in subcontracting annually. The office operates under the Small Business Act and other DoD regulations to ensure compliance and effective resource management.
