Barclays

Barclays PLC is a multinational British financial institution based in London, with a history dating back to 1690. Originally established as a goldsmith-banking business by Quakers John Freame and Thomas Gould, Barclays has evolved into a global bank through numerous mergers and innovations. It formally incorporated as Barclays & Co. in 1896 and has since become one of the UK's "big four" banks. The bank offers a wide range of services, including retail and consumer banking, investment banking, and corporate banking. Its retail services encompass current accounts, mortgages, personal loans, and credit cards, while its investment banking division provides fixed income, equities, and capital markets services. Barclays has a strong international presence, having expanded into the U.S. and other global markets. The bank is known for pioneering innovations such as the UK's first credit card and the world's first ATM. In 2005, Barclays moved its headquarters to Canary Wharf, reflecting its growth and modernization.
